My sister Michelle LOVES her Crocs. She loves all the color choices, the jibbitz, and she never engages sports mode. In June 2021 she visited for a week and packed one ENTIRE suitcase filled with Crocs. (Secretly she wanted me to fall into the Croc Craze but the texture is not for me.)
One pair she packed was her Rainbow colored Crocs. With June being Pride month she wanted to represent. But she wasn’t sure.
Should she wear them? Would it be frowned on in the community? Was it too bold? She told me it was the first Pride she would be celebrating. Although she is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community she up to this point hadn’t publicly said much.
This shocked me! Being the more outgoing of us in our earlier years I assumed she’d been to a parade, celebration or event at some point.
I encouraged her to wear what she felt comfortable and safe with and I would support her choices.
It really got me thinking as a hetero cisgender woman what privileges I take for granted and what LGBTQIA+ individuals could be going through in June and throughout the year.
I’ve made an intentional effort to be an ally through my website, marketing, and in-person relationships. I strive to be a safe and inclusive space and want you to know that I support and celebrate you.
So for June 2024 I celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community here and world wide. You’ve fought for so much and deserve so much more. I will continue to help you shine through my photo and video services AND most importantly in our friendships.
